Hi there,
As a private citizen, I am hoping to help save an old Chickering piano (Chickering & Sons – Antique Piano Shop) at risk of being sent to the landfill and thought you, a theatre group, might be interested in it as a stage prop. Montgomery County Recreation, specifically the Jane E. Lawton Community Center in Chevy Chase, MD, has been in possession of this piano for many years and, unfortunately, it has never found a home.
It is currently not in good playing condition and, while I am most definitely not an expert, I believe it may be expensive to fix, if that’s even possible- it does play, but some keys stick and are warped, as is the wood top (see attached pics).
Perhaps there is a play in your future that features someone playing badly or one could pretend to play it well while music plays simultaneously? Maybe it could be sanded by a shop class and painted colorfully by an art class? It feels like there are many creative ways to save this instrument.
If you or anyone you know might be interested, please contact Recreation Specialist Jordan Henson at the Jane E. Lawton Community Center (Phone: 240-777-6852
Email: Jordan.Henson@montgomerycountymd.gov). Please note, however, that you would have to arrange to move it yourself.
Thanks, in advance, for your consideration
