• Pianos disposed of end up in landfills, not in some “Piano Heaven”. That’s right, laying in a pile of garbage!

• There are many people looking for free pianos, so donating, or giving away your piano can be a gift, and in some cases, a tax deductible gift!
• When you give your piano to someone, you can request they only use a professional piano mover that they will pay for, not you!
• If your piano has been in your family for a long time, having someone take it, and push it off the back of their truck in a trash heap is a very sad ending for the family piano.

If your piano has been deemed “Not Serviceable” by a Piano Technician, all is not lost! We always recommend placing the piano up for adoption anyway, and mentioning that the piano was verified “Not Serviceable” by a piano technician.

Who would adopt a piano that was not serviceable?
Pianos are adopted for many reasons, not just for being played! This may come as a surprise, but free junk pianos are sought after, and can be adopted for many reasons, like; movie scenes, used as art in a bar or restaurant, or repurposed in many other ways. The ivory on old piano keys are rare. Unfortunately, an elephant was killed for that ivory, so disposing of it would be a shame. There are laws about the repurposing of the ivory, so be aware of that. But otherwise, there are many people out there that enjoy repurposing old pianos. This is a part of history all over the world so at least give the piano a chance before disposing of it.
